This choreography explores through movement, sound, film and set design the implicit tensions between nature and society in one of the most fascinating urbanistic projects of the last century: the garden city of Hellerau.
Building upon the utopian principles on which this city was founded, its organic design and the traces that this architectural order leaves on people, Looking Backward to To-Morrow approaches this urban environment, conceived in the early twentieth century, through the dancer’s body of today, understood as the most sensitive and intelligent machine (fast, precise, and functional, but also open to nature, intimate and fragile) that would better capture Hellerau’s future heart beats and challenges.
For this production, Avatâra has brought together an international and multidisciplinary team of five dancers and three young artists to create a piece which appeals to all the audience’s senses and mind. She will also count with the special collaboration of Palucca Schule students and the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau.
