“Avatara Ayuso's well-plotted Pidgin was deservedly well-received. [...] Enacted via a dynamic vocabulary of sometimes strenuously stretched yet undulant gyrations [...] How invigorating to see a power play between strong women”
Donald Hutera
Dance Europe Magazine
“Ayuso makes use of a wide choreographic material which she manages to blend in a unique way, with a firm grip, searching along with her dancers in such a way that finally the authenticity of the movements and images convince us completely”
Boris Michael Gruhl
Tanznetz
“The choreographer, Avatâra Ayuso, puts special attention to the timings, the coordination of bodies, the group dynamics, achieving also a kind of “suspension”, permanence of movement”

“Avatâra Ayuso's work conjures up a visceral strength of conviction in her practice”
For Spain NOW! 2012 Avatâra took the initial brief to its limits: a collaboration between different artistic practices which would result in a true collaboration of equals. To see it all unfold at our launch at The Hospital Club in early October, was true magic. Imperceptible and precise, the communication between musician bRUNA and dancer against the backdrop of the artwork created by Antonio Montesinos as part of this collaboration, had us all transfixed in Avatâra's power to harness the energy of the piece, which emerged before our eyes as something tangible, earthy, urgent.
For the second part of her collaboration in Spain NOW! 2012, Avatâra was 'pitted against' the work 'Dealing with Death' by young Spanish painter Pedro Paricio at the Halcyon Gallery in Mayfair. Once more, the piece transcended and blurred disciplines. The painting in the background not just a mirror but a cypher for Avatâra's minimalist offering. The meaning of the painter's intention made apparent by the, in turns, syncopated and sinuous movements, which by the end of the piece appeared to have fused, making perfect sense of each other. A painterly memento mori, playful and definite.
We feel privileged to have had Avatâra as part of this year's programme and we look forward to continuing this relationship in the future, exploring new ways of expression and creative collaboration

“Ayuso is a delightful dancer, able to embody both elasticity and roughness with power and conviction; her ‘so quite new a thing’ was irresistibly alluring”
